Tense situation erupts near Parliament as clashes erupt

A tense situation has erupted near Parliament as clashes have erupted between Security forces and the protestors with several injured from both sides, Daily Mirror reporters on ground have reported.

Continuous rounds of tear gas is being fired on the protestors near the Speaker's House while parts of the Diyatha Uyana has been damaged.

Security forces have been instructed to protect the Parliament and prevent the protestors from getting in.

Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena earlier in the evening urged protestors and security forces to implement dialogue and avoid violence. However he said the Parliament belonged to all 22 million citizens of the country and not any particular party or force.
