Tense situation in Parliament after PM’s statement on IGP

Parliament, July 26 (Daily Mirror) - A tense situation emerged in Parliament after Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena declared that the restraining order issued by the Supreme Court preventing IGP Deshabandu Thennekoon from functioning in his post is illegal.

Opposition MPs argued that an acting IGP should be appointed while the ruling party MPs argued that a new appoinment cannot be made as the post is not vacant.

It defies simple logic to say an Abstention is an Against vote. So if someone is absent and does not vote does that count as Against. So IGP endorsement by Speaker casting decider vote is totally wrong. Yes and No are definite while Abstaning can be for very many reasons.
