Tense situation inside Parliament, sittings suspended for 10 min.

A tense situation erupted inside Parliament a short while ago resulting in sittings being suspended for 10 minutes by the Speaker.

Daily Mirror Parliament correspondent reported that the Opposition SJB had urged the Speaker to take up the No Confidence Motions against the President and government without further delay and protested against the protesters outside Parliament being tear gassed. Once news then reached that the protestors outside Parliament had been tear-gassed, the opposition MPs got onto the Well of the House, resulting in heated arguments.

Police have now parked two buses blocking the entrance of the Parliament to maintain security. (Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
