Thanamalwila rape case: Four more suspects arrested

Thanamalwila, August 15 (Daily Mirror) - Four more suspects wanted in connection with the alleged rape of a 16-year-old schoolgirl of the Thanamalwila National School were arrested today by the Lunugamwehera police.

They were between 15 and 16 years of age and three of them are students of a school in the Lunugamwehera area and the other from the Thanamalwila National School.

They were arrested based on the statement made to the Thanamalwila police by the victim.

They are alleged to have raped the girl during a musical show at a playground in the Lunugamwehera area last April. The  schoolboys were to be produced before Tissamaarama magistrate yesterday.

Police said 22 suspects including the Principal, Deputy Principal, two lady teachers of the school, 17 schoolboys and a 39-year-old woman were arrested earlier.

The Principal, the Deputy Principal and the two lady teachers were released on bail and the 14 schoolboys placed under probation. Three other schoolboys and the woman were remanded.

Thanamalwila police are conducting fruther investigations.
