Tharushi wins Asian Games gold



Sri Lanka's Tharushi Dissanayake won gold in the Women's 800m at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, clocking a time of 2 minutes 03.20 seconds, beating out defending champion Chunyu Wang. 

The games, which were scheduled to be held last year, was postponed to this year, amidst the widespread rise in Covid-19 cases in China, though remaining as the 2022 Asian Games.

In a well-paced run, Dissanayake moved through the pack in the final 300m, before overtaking China's Wang down the home stretch. 

India's Harmilan Bains finished in second with a time of 2:03.75, while Wang had to settle for Bronze, clocking 2:03.90.

Gayanthika Aberathna, who also competed in the event, finished last with a time of 2 minutes 05.87 seconds.
