There are ‘black cobras’ trying to provoke SL fishermen: Douglas



Whilst an effort is made to resolve the confrontation between Sri Lankan and Indian fishermen through diplomatic channels, there are others who are trying to make matters worse, Minister of Fisheries Douglas Devananda told Parliament today.
 
“There are ‘black cobras’ who are trying to provoke Sri Lankan fishermen,” the Minister said, making a special statement in the House.
 
“I have already discussed the matters with the Indian Foreign Minister and others. In addition I have submitted a proposal aimed at resolving the issue to Indian officials and they have accepted it,” he added.
 
“We have also decided to take legal action and to allow the judiciary to decide on the fisheries equipment of Indian fishermen which have been confiscated by Sri Lanka,” he added.
 
The Minister also expressed his sympathies to the family members of Sri Lankan fishermen who were killed in a recent confrontations and assured the Sri Lankan fishermen that justice will be meted out to them soon. (Yohan Perera and Ajith Siriwardana)
