Three arrested for abducting and gang-raping schoolgirl in Kattankudy

Batticaloa, Jan 08 (Daily Mirror) - Three individuals have been arrested by police for allegedly abducting, assaulting and gang-raping a 15-year-old schoolgirl in Kattankudy.

Police said the suspects reportedly abducted the girl while she was en route to meet her boyfriend in the area. The perpetrators allegedly transported her to the Ariyampati area last Friday, where she was subjected to assault and gang rape.

The arrest of the suspects followed a formal complaint lodged with the police. Investigations revealed that the arrested suspects are addicted to drugs.

The suspects, aged between 26 and 32 years and residents of Ariampathi, are scheduled to be produced before court today (8).

Once the courts confirm they are guilty, impose the maximum penalty on them. They should be on the police radar after their jail sentence too.

Political interference and many years of delay (at least 8 year or more, more often) in passing sentences removes all deterrents from such crimes. A rape, particularly on a schoolgirl, ought to automatically remove all fundamental rights of the offender and be barred from society. Rehabilitation is irrelevant.
