Three suspects arrested for promoting banned LTTE activities via social media



Colombo, Dec 01 (Daily Mirror) - The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID) arrested three individuals for disturbing public peace by promoting LTTE Mahaviru commemorations.

According to the police, the suspects aged 28, 35 and 45 are identified as residents of Maradana, Chunnakam and Baddegama respectively. 

They are accused of circulating photographs and videos of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran through social media, along with old footage from previous LTTE Mahaviru commemorations, which they have presented as this year’s celebrations.

The suspects have been arrested under the Penal Code and the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) on charges of inciting violence and spreading false advertisements and videos promoting the activities of a banned organization.

The CID and TID are continuing their investigations.
