Traffic PCs allegedly seek bribe from Public Security Minister’s son

Kandy, Dec 4 (Daily Mirror) - Two traffic police officers on duty allegedly sought a bribe from the son of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles during a traffic stop in the Galagedara area in Kandy last Saturday.

Reportedly, the minister's son, en route to Kandy, was pulled over by the traffic officers for violating traffic rules while overtaking a vehicle. The Minister's son acknowledged the traffic violation and accepted the issued fine sheet.

The Minister's son had reportedly inquired about the nearest post office to pay the fine.

However, the officer writing the fine had reportedly informed the Minister's son that he could avoid going to the post office by assisting them.

Upon revealing his identity as the son of the Public Security Minister, the Minister's son insisted on receiving the fine sheet for the committed offense.

Subsequently, the officers obtained 1,100 rupees from the Minister's son to pay the fine and used the police motorcycle to reach the post office to pay the fine and provided the receipt to the Minister's son along with his driver's license.
