Train services limited up to Ella for six days

Colombo, October 9 (Daily Mirror) - The Railways Department announced that train services between Colombo Fort and Badulla will be limited to Ella station from today till October 15 due to an Indo-Lanka joint film project.

The decision, approved by the Transport Ministry, comes as filming takes place on the Nine Arches Bridge between Ella and Demodara stations.

As a result, train services between these stations will be restricted daily from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. starting this morning (9).

This is a gross violation of the basic rights of passengers. Why is very little advance notice given? What about the passengers who have reserved seats to travel from stations between Ella and Badulla to Colombo and vice versa? This type of action shows the sheer apathy and the callous disregard for the passengers by those in the higher ranks of the state service, Things have not changed yet.

I wonder who made this decision. If they decided to stop services for a few hours it can be understood. But six days! I think never in the world was such a decision taken to stop an important railway for so long just to please a film crew. Who is the all powerful person behind this stoppage? Was there any inducement?

Really? Where on earth public transport is stopped for days for a film? Who is bearing the cost and further this is a violation of fundamental rights of all citizens. Where are the defenders of HR.

This film will be a tourist attraction if it hits the patrons. Let us hope, for the sacrifices made by our train users may bring much needed Forex to the country

Nice way to promote Tourism! They buy ticket well in advance going through a lot of hassles and service stops only giving public 02 day notice.

This will impact on tourism as their planned travel schedules are disrupted by this decision. This train ride is a popular tourist route, where most of them buy tickets a month in advance.
