Transferring from blackboard to smart boards is not digitization of education: Minister



Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror) - Digitization of education is not just transferring from the blackboard to smart boards, Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said.

He said 2,500 smart boards will be provided to all the leading schools in the country by between August and September during the first phase.

Within three years all schools will be digitized and connected to one network to provide friendly educational opportunities, he said.

Minister Premajayantha said that teachers should also be prepared for this and teacher's handbooks related to the teacher training has been prepared by experts and 7,500 teachers will be trained in the initial round.

According to these education systems, which have been designed while taking into account the new world education trends, children will have the opportunity to get their first degree at the age of 21, postgraduate at the age of 23 and doctorate at the age of 27.

He also said that only science graduate teachers are expected to be sent to schools from 2028.
