Two individuals, impersonating tax officers nabbed in Aluthgama

Aluthgama, August 30 (Daily Mirror)- An attempt made by a gang to cheat businessmen in Aluthgama and Dharga Town under the pretext of tax officers of the Inland Revenue Department collecting income tax from business establishments and to obtain money was foiled by the Aluthgama police.

Two individuals including a woman had called over at a jewellery shop and examined its tax files and the business registration and had pointed out several shortcomings in the tax files and had demanded a gratification to avoid legal action
 
The businessmen of the area who suspected them had informed the Aluthgama police who rushed to the scene and arrested the two individuals.  
 
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were in possession of forged identity cards as officials of the Inland Revenue Department.

Police inquired from the Commissioner of Inland Revenue to find that the department had not deployed officials to collect income tax at tbe door steps of business establishment. He requested police to investigate into the incident and to take legal action against the suspects.
 
Meanwhile, the rest of the gang had fled from the area in a white van when two of them were nabbed by the police.
