Two prison officials hospitalised following assault by prisoner on transit

Kandy, July 24 (Daily Mirror)- A detainee remanded in the Dumbara prisons on murder charges assaulted two prison officials causing serious injuries to them when they were taking him to the Batticaloa courts in connection with another case.

Police said the injured officers were admitted to the National Hospital, Kandy.

The prisoner was being transported from the Dumbara prisons to Batticalao along the Mahiyangana road when he turned aggressive and assaulted the jailor and a jail guard. The prison bus returned to Dumbara prisons and the officers were admitted to hospital.

The prisoner was taken under enhanced security to the Batticaloa courts.

We hope that prisoners are intolerable of Police Brutality, caused such a marvellous situation on Corrupt Police officers who transported them to Court. It proves that robust, brave and intelligent prisoners are there serving in the Prisons.
