UDA irked by CMC’s failure to act against unauthorised construction on sanctioned street line

Colombo Municipal Council’s (CMC) deliberate failure to take legal action against an unauthorised construction on a sanctioned street line in Colombo 6, has irked the Urban Development Authority (UDA).
Despite several directives given by the UDA to take action against this unauthorised construction, the question arises as to why the CMC is dragging their feet and whether there is a hidden agenda over their silence.“We know why the CMC ignores the UDA orders. There is an allegation that some of the CMC officers are working hand in glove with the encroacher, who is a businessman. When we met these officers at the CMC they were talking to us as if we are at fault. Since we came to know that the CMC is not ready to start any investigation we approached the UDA who are now in the process of taking action to our complaint,” one of the neighbours said.
