US Treasury official Robert Kaproth to visit Sri Lanka

Colombo, June 28 (Daily Mirror) - Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth from the U.S. Treasury Department will visit Sri Lanka next week.

In a tweet from Ambassador Julie Chung’s official Twitter account, the U.S. Embassy in Sri Lanka disclosed the upcoming visit of Deputy Assistant Secretary Robert Kaproth.

Kaproth’s itinerary includes meetings with Sri Lankan government officials, think tanks and leaders in the financial sector.

There is an old saying that "Marriages are made in heaven." Similarly, the fate of poor countries is often shaped in the White House, Washington, D.C. This notion underscores the significance of Robert Kaproth's official visit to Sri Lanka, where he serves as the Deputy Assistant Secretary. It is disheartening that our politicians, both past and present, have turned to the IMF a staggering 17 times, effectively ceding control over our nation's economic future. This dependency stems from our chronic failure to address underlying issues properly, which has precipitated the current economic crisis. President Ranil Wickremesinghe seems content, perhaps because he is favored by the White House, which supports his continued presidency. However, the citizens of Sri Lanka are discontented with him, largely due to his reluctance to hold accountable those who have committed egregious acts of theft and abuse.
