USD selling rate drops below Rs. 300 after 15 months

Colombo, Oct 02 (Daily Mirror) - The selling rate of the US dollar has fallen below Rs. 300 for the first time since June 8, 2023.

According to the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, the selling rate of a US dollar was recorded at Rs. 299.35 while the current buying rate stands at Rs. 290.30.

What they import ? Cars ? There are a lot in Hambatota port. What for? People don't have enough to eat daily and with what money do they import such cars? Have to find out who is behind these import car Where come from these money that they paid to import car. Here is and example of cars but there are.more things as petrol , eggs, rice.......

Wish the CBSL maintains a stringent fiscal policy framework going forward without any Political interference. I reckon the change of Leadership was needed, and they need to be given a chance so an attempt can be made to correct lot of shortcomings from the past, slowly and steadily..........

Not true. The LKR dropped to 293.46 in April 2024 and averaged mid to upper 290's until June 2024. Then dropping again from 300 to the mid and upper 290's from July to mid September. If you need to fact check, the currency's historic performance, the chart is on google.

Our fools will believe anything anyone says if they are on the same side. During aragalya, these jvp claimed they have files on each person who committed crimes with proof and evidence. If you have evidence and proof, they should be behind bars by now.

I am no economist nor a intellect but what I know is since there is no demand for usd it's low that's all. Pls understand that our LKR is still pegged back by central bank, if not the actual LKR value will be around 1USD = 325 to 340 minimum. The new government is taking steps but no change will happen over night. Remember we have still not started paying our loans !!!!

Why do you believe this scam? As the SL Rupee can only be bought in SL, there is no market at all. The rate is made up by the central Bank of SL, it is not free floating, it is all a lie. Try to sell your Rupees anywhere on the planet, nobody will accept it. Why should the usd go down against sl Rupee? Sl has over usd 100 billion debt and the cheating goes on.

Spot on. If I try to buy SL rupees in the UK the exchange rate is 295 to £1. If I withdraw with my UK debit card from Peoples Bank I get nearly 400 lkr to £1. If you do an honest conversion the Sri Lankan rupee is in reality 25% more than it should be when measured against stable currencies. This will not end well!
