Ugandan President hails SL President for stabilizing economy



Uganda, Jan 05 (Daily Mirror) -  Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena accompanied by the High Commissioner to Uganda, Kana Kananathan, held constructive discussions with Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and the meeting, which took place in Kampala focused on strengthening diplomatic ties and exploring avenues for collaboration between the two nations.

During the talks, President Museveni praised the remarkable economic stabilization achieved by Sri Lanka under the leadership of President Ranil Wickramasinghe in a short span of time.

President Museveni acknowledged the historic relationship between the two countries and expressed the mutual commitment to working together in various international fora.

The Speaker is in Uganda to attend the Speakers of commonwealth conference which is taking place between  January 4 and 6.

This meeting marks a significant step towards fostering stronger bilateral relations and cooperation between Sri Lanka and Uganda. Both parties look forward to building on their historical ties and exploring new opportunities for collaboration in the global arena. The Ugandan President is familiar with Sri Lanka and its leaders. He has close links with the Sri Lankan envoy in Uganda for 40 years.  

The Speaker’s delegation included Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera and MP Rauff Hakeem who is the leader of Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC).
