This culture of protesting and provoking a tear gas attack is really not good to atleast bring up the next generations in a more civil manner. There are enough countries where very decent disciplined protests are held without provoking a police action. Protests in our country show a lack of respect for law and the authorities.

Hazards of free education Wednesday, 03 April 2024 06:18 PM
The right thing to do. This is the problem of free education. A relative of mine in the UK, has a child in the university. They don’t spend and go away on holidays, but pay the compulsory university fees for education, board and lodgings. They don’t go on strike nor protest marches foregoing their education.

Well said. This has been the curse of this country. Free education. Then, what do they do? While they are studying, they disrupt the lives of those who genuinely want to study, and to top it all, once they receive their respective degrees they leave the country. Paid education is now the only way forward. We just cannot afford this extravagance anymore.

Clever to use tear gas and water cannons. Hope protesters will find solutions soon.

Only solution is to stop their free education!

Not Bright Students in this University Wednesday, 03 April 2024 10:07 PM
Feel so sad looking at the stupidity of the future citizens. Wonder what kind of standards the university has? Must be very low standards and these morons must have bribe someone to get into this low standard University. They don’t look that bright as by now they should know the authorities will tear gas and water cannon them off. Make them pay term fees so that they will think of finishing the classes soon instead of protesting. When classes are free, they won’t bother to concentrate.

Cannot understand why we the poor citizens pay for these uncivilised, aimless, buggers' so-called university degrees! Enough is enough!

I find it amusing to read that (apparently) the commentators here are so easily willing to sacrifice their own and the future generations democratic rights so easily !!
This is how spineless Sri Lankans have become in the face of this governments unending onslaught on our basic rights and freedoms.
After it's gone, you won't get it back !
