Update: Daily Mirror’s quick action leads to removal of hazardous tree branch

Colombo, May 27 (Daily Mirror) - Quick action by the Daily Mirror breaking news exposing the wayside hazard of a shattered branch of a mango tree hanging over the pavement along the Anagarika Dharmapala Mawatha in Colombo drew a similar quick response by the Colombo Municipal Council (CMC) and was removed by the CMC’s Disaster Management Unit a short while ago.

It is indeed a sad reflection of the Parks Division of the CMC that newspapers and people threatened have to report these risks. In Singapore the Parks Division keeps trees pruned regularly by their inspectors.

Correct, DM should have a few crews roaming around SL especially in major towns and report any abnormalities. This will keep the respective Municipal Council’s on their toes B4 or after DM highlights the issue to the public.

preventing trees falling is not only cutting but is also by planting to replace. We must encourage trees to be grown and assist in maintaining them. Further study the reason behind the falling of trees and branches. In a decades time the same persons who are making sound would blame the government for the ensuing drought.
