Update: Paratroopers injured during Independence Day rehearsals

File photo Colombo, Jan 30 (Daily Mirror) - At least four paratroopers were injured when their parachutes failed to open properly during the Independence Day rehearsals being held at Galle Face Green.

Army Spokesman Major General K.A.N. Rasika Kumara said two paratroopers landed on a building when their parachutes failed to open.

It was reported that during a parachute rehearsal, two parachutes collided in the sky, resulting in an accident.

Two paratroopers from the Sri Lanka Air Force and two paratroopers from the Army sustained injuries in the incident.

According to hospital sources, two Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) paratroopers have been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital and are presently undergoing medical tests.

They are performing this exercise at the beach where there are high winds. And with the skyscrapers combined, this will bring about really unpredictable gusts of wind. The troopers who perform these stunts are extremely courageous and skilled. I pray for their recovery.

@Aceman : Exactly my point. Idiots. Why would you risk a rehearsal given the conditions? Who is the bigger idiot that approved a rehearsal in these conditions and who is the biggest idiot of all that thinks it is a good location for a parachute jump? And why are we even performing a "parachute jump" in the first place??? These gimmicks are fitting and appropriate for people who were actually involved in WW1

In the one video of a falling parachutist at Galle Face Green the Army Officer with the large Baton is actually running away scared. Not a typical army type action at all. Not an expert, but parachutist seemed not to be aware of emergency procedures. He did not roll after hitting the deck, which is normal procedure for a parachutist, i believe.
