Police said today that stringent action would be taken against those who organise parties or events illegally on Valentine's Day which falls on February 14, without the permission of health authorities.

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said, information had reached that several individuals are organising parties and events through social media.

He said considering the prevailing COVID-19 situation, there is a risk of emerging new clusters or sub clusters from such events or parties. He said it is prohibited to organise such events without obtaining permission from health bodies.

"No one can host or allowed to throw parties or events to celebrate Valentine's day without permission from relevant authorities. If they still organise such gettogethers, we will take stern actions against them. Also the attendees at such events will also face legal action for aiding and abetting," he said.

DIG Rohana urged the youth not to attend such events under any circumstances as those are considered illegal. He said policemen would be deployed at territorial level to monitor such events and officers in civvies would also be deployed in the areas where the parties are scheduled to take place.(DSB)
