Van collides with Kandy-Matara train

A van collided against the Matara bound express train from Kandy at the Keenadeniya railway crossing off Ambepussa railway station, police said.

They said the driver of the van was injured and admitted to the Warakapola Base Hospital. Only the driver was in the van at the time of the incident. However the van was extensively damaged.

The train resumed the journey after the van was removed from the railway tracks. It was subject to a delay of about half an hour.

The traffic branch of the Meerigama police conducted investigations.

Stupid and arrogant drivers should get punished like this so that others learn. The Railway crossings have guards , signals, gates but still these arrogant drivers try to escape through as if they have very urgent matters to attend. These drivers should be fined heavily for damages to the train or tracks. CCTV at these tracks would help.
