Colombo, June 6 (Daily Mirror) - Venerable Balangoda Kassapa Thera, who was preparing to launch a fast near Parliament with a protest sign board against the proposed Electricity Act, was arrested this afternoon by the Thalangama Police.

They said the Thera was arrested by some police officers who came to the place less than ten minutes after he began the fast.

There are a handful of full-time protestors in the country now. Yes, we have to protest for the people's rights. But it has to be logical and acceptable. If someone protests for everything and nothing is questionable, how can they spend this money and time on something that is not directly beneficial to them? Who is behind this, and who funds them? Why and for what? The public must know all these things.I am curious to know what this monk and those few people who go everywhere to protest are expecting. They just disgrace the meaning of the word "protest.". Someone must be financially behind them. Arrest them or chase them away; we have many problems to resolve. People need basic essentials to live their day-to-day lives. Those who protest don't do anything for their own benefit.I am an Aragalaya man. We didn't protest. But we had a common goal for everyone. We did it. Look at these jokers now! Lol

Rev. Kassapa should know that protesting against any government bill or action under the current regime invites manhandling, aggression and intimidation by the Government's Police. This Government cannot proceed when people engage in protests. Patience till the Presidential Election in 4 months!

@ Banda; In a democratic society, protests are part and parcel and nothing to surprise. The issue is, no democracy in SL as you don't believe in democracy and good governance. Energy is also a basic element that you don't understand. It is to be sold to foreign entities by having clauses for that by risking the country.

Did I say protests are undemocratic? I think you may have to learn what is protest and how to do it right. In this case no one has said energy is not essential. They are organized bunch of cowards. When there was no Power, no having water a fuel, what did you guys do to fix it? Nothing right. Only you people can do is protests. What a bunch of clowns!

How protests should be done is, must be peaceful. That venerable monk adhered to. When there are issues in the country, it is the responsibility of the government to solve those. Not the ordinary people. You had a common goal in getting Ranil to the Presidency in your Aragalaya and the job was done. So, no more protests as your problems are solved. What away.
