Warden arrested over death of teenager at children’s detention centre

Kalmunai, Dec 3 (Daily Mirror) -The female warden of a children's detention centre in Kalmunai has been arrested following the death of a 17-year-old boy in her care.

The teenager had been arrested for theft and produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate's Court.

Subsequently, he was placed in the custody of the Child Protection Authority at the designated children's detention centre, as ordered by the court.

Contrary to initial reports of the boy succumbing to an illness while in detention, forensic findings have revealed that his death was a result of an assault.

As a response to these findings, the Kalmunai Police have taken the 28-year-old warden into custody in connection with the incident.

The deceased boy is a resident of Kokkadicholai, Batticaloa.

Unbelievable. Death to a 17 year old as a result of an assault in a children’s home in Batticaloa. Parents responsibility to bring up children if they give birth.

Assault on children is cruel, a youth has many more years to live, but his life has been curtailed at the prime of life. Perpetrators of this crime should be given maximum punishment.

The country is loosing grips on all sector except for thriving corruption. Imagine a kid being assaulted to death in a care home? Aren't qualified people appointed for these positions? Aren't the homes supervised?

Very sad to hear deaths of these adolescent children. Very pathetic. The boy may not have had any self defense against this cruelty ; may be this female warden aould not have any children?
