Wedding photographer arrested for photographing perahera with drone camera

Kandy, August 20 (Daily Mirror)- A wedding photographer by the name Rasanga Dissanayake was arrested for taking photos of the final Randoli perahera with a drone camera.

The Sri Lanka Air Force personnel who detected the drone flying above Dalada Maligawa shot the drone down and arrested the suspect at a hotel close to the Temple of the Tooth.

Using drone cameras without permission above the Dalada Maligawa is prohibited.

Two other individuals were also arrested for using a drone on the third day of the Randoli Perahera.

It is understandable why these laws are necessary. At the same time such footage would have been great for promoting tourism. Glad no one was hurt in the shooting of the drone.

If photos captured by the drone camera were not destroyed I am sure the photographer would have used them profitably. They could have been used in promoting tourism. At least the Airforce must be engaged to take aerial photos to promote tourism
