Colombo, July 03 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam highlighted that former Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia Udayanga Weeratunga has nothing to do with the party and thus, his statements regarding the party are of no importance.
He made these remarks when reporters questioned Kariyawasam referring to a statement made by Udayanga Weeratunga where he had stated that the SLPP will nominate Dhammika Perera as its Presidential candidate and Namal Rajapaksa as Prime Minister.
However, Kariyawasam refused to comment on the statement made by Udayanga Weeratunga.
While reiterating that the SLPP will field a Presidential candidate, Sagara Kariyawasam said they will consider supporting Ranil Wickremesinghe if he quits the United National Party and joins the SLPP.
"We have not yet decided as to who our Presidential candidate will be, said Kariyawasam, asserting that they will definitely field a candidate under the SLPP symbol.
"The decision on the candidate will be decided at the appropriate time," he added.
