Colombo, October 31 (Daily Mirror)- Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya said she will never take advice from someone like former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who was rejected by the people 17 times.
The Prime Minister told a meeting that it is a big joke that Ranil Wickremesinghe, who had not understood the fundamentals of the Constitution, the 'people’s mandate', is offering to teach the Constitution.
"I will never take advice from Ranil. He has been rejected by the people 17 times. He is not leaving and is still hanging on. He cannot understand that the people have changed. He has been rejected by the people. We are marching on a new journey. The biggest joke is that Ranil says he can teach the Constitution. The fundamental of the Constitution is the people’s mandate. I wonder whether Ranil, who fails to understand even this, knows about the Constitution," she said.
"I said somewhere that we need to follow proper procedures when making decisions and the country has faced so many crises since such procedures had not been adopted. We make decisions by listening to the people and considering the opinions of the officials. People never expect us to rule the country in the same way they did. People elected us to change the system, not to learn lessons from them and do the same. If we do so, you will expel us tomorrow. We are not answerable to Ranil. We are answerable to the people," she said.

The current government in power the NPP is on record stating that for 76 years we had the wrong leaders. So what is means in other words is we the voters have democratically elected using our wisdom the wrong leaders for 76 years. In that context if Ranil was rejected on 17 occasions perhaps that may have been another foolish choice of the same lot of people. NPP hung grass when the 69 lakhs went in buses to the SLPP convention in 2023. If you analyse the voting its evident that 3% increased to 42% largely due to SLPP votes voting NPP. So Donkeys of 2023 have become interlectuals in 2024 to vote wisely?

This woman is full of JVP aggressive attitude. No respect for elders. If it wasn't for Ranil, you do not have a country to rule. It was him, who accepted the challenge during the economic crisis. If RW has done some wrong, bring him to courts and punish him. Otherwise stop making accusations. Horu without punishment is better than Pachayo with proof all over.

When we advocate for change, let's consider this as well: instead of addressing politicians as 'Sir' or 'Madam,' we should use 'Mr.' or 'Ms.' After all, they seek our votes, not our deference. This shift in language reflects a more equal relationship between representatives and the people they serve. Actually they beg our votes and becoming Madam and Sir.

Madam, your slip is showing. Wasn't it you who said that the former President is a lier? He responded to your accusation and said that the comment he made during the Presidential election is well within the powers granted in terms of the Constitution and he pointed out that even the current President's financial advisor had signed the document endorsing the payment to the public sector as from Jan. 2025. You said this is not part of the 2024 Budget, then how come a General Election is held in November when it was not covered in the 2024 Budget? Politics is a game no doubt, but if you start playing to the "gallery", then one can expect a return in the same manner! You are now slandering the former President, who brought this country out of a financial crisis and created the normalcy which we are now enjoying. That is not done, Madam!

It will be seen by all when they don't pay the Public service their dues, Monthly salary and allowances come January 2025!!?? 'He said, I said None said' is all irrelevant, Immaterial to the issue, because you all should have got a “3 months VOTE ON A/C” passed before dissolution of the last Parliament!!?? Which didn't happen and now after dissolution until the new Parliament elected on 15/11/2024 assembles and incoming Cabinet takes Oaths, that cannot be done!? Yours - "’Why should I take advice from someone rejected by people 17 times?’" displays the Vanity!!?? What's the relevance whether he was rejected 17 times or 27!!?? Being elected or not does not display Knowledge or Lack of it to be imparted to others!!??? Similarly, it is true, someone, being successful in being ELECTED may OBVIOUSLY have the required KNOWLEDGE TO PERFORM satisfactorily to meet the Practical CHALLENGES faced in POLITICS, which unfortunately seems to be case in this INSTANCE!!?

Not sure what losing elections has to do with someones knowledge on the constitution. Didn't JVP also lose continuously for decades? He merely responded to your false accusation of him violating the constitution and not getting approval from the govt officials. Defending false accusations is his right and every other citizens right. Just because someone does not have the peoples mandate does not mean whatever experience and knowledge they have is useless. This attitude is exactly the reason why NPP should not get a 2/3 majority in parliament. We need a strong opposition to ensure they do not make dumbfounded decisions just because people want it. Your party will do good getting rid of corruption, but you definitely need help continuing to stabilise and grow our economy.

Not a supprter of Ranil.. but this comment is pretty lame,... Shows how inexperienced she is. People do not like Ranil even me included but you cannot deny the fact that Ranil is the most well versed in Politics in Sri Lanka. People did not give him a chance due to him representing a class which is not compatible with the masses and his actions taken to alienate the masses from his class thereby creating a standout distance between the ruler and ruled. However, he is willing to give advise not on those but SOP's of politics.. so there's nothing personal here... Harini should also act intelectualluy rather than posing so...

M. Fernando, for MSc and PhD, we are assigned or allowed to choose advisors who already have the qualifications (lecturers and/or experts in the field) to guide them so the research that is done provides maximum value. You are comparing school exams with Post Graduate, does that really seem logical to you? One of the most important characteristics of a learned individual is to accept that there is so much more to learn than what they already know.

About road-sweeping, yes. For sure. About constitution, somewhat unlikely. RW has no experience except being parachuted into the presidency. He has no experience of strategy or campaigning. He cannot be elected as a member and of any party. He's got experience in taking apart political parties but not in putting them together. He definitely knows how to ignore the courts. He is riding on a propagated myth of being JR's nephew and people assume he knows what he's talking about about whereas, the truth is that it's just arrogance and hubris that makes him believe he is still a contender. He is playing Radala politics in a populist era. It won't work.

EXPERIENCE gained by bankrupting a country is of absolutely no value. Experience of selling country's assets to others is of absolutely no value. Are you saying a thief's experience of burglary is valuable? It is NOT the experience that matters but the outcomes of gaining the experience. RW destroyed UNP, a party that was a force during and in the early years of the post-independent era. You refer to Marcos family. A different generation of that family and citizens may have voted for him. He is an individual of his own. He may have learnt from the mistakes of his family. Repeat your point of view years down the line, if this progeny does what his parents did. If that happens, the mistake can be put at the feet of masses. SL are much more intelligent. We were able to reject once mighty parties such as UNP, SLFP etc. UK and USA have systems to get rid of corrupt leaders, parties survive. RW is clinging onto the party he destroyed and contesting with a different symbol.

Well spoken by an educated individual who are very well matured to answer a politician who happened to be in politics by influence of his political family back ground , who at the end completely vandalised UNP to the current level that couldn't contest a general election it's own . This shows his attitude and knowledge in politics after spending more than 40 useless years in politics while breaching the country's constitution many times while in the future he needs to answer for all those breaches in the constitutional reform legal bench which will be appointed by the chief Justice .
