Colombo, September 18 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that people, who voted to form governments so far, were humiliated by the rulers, National People's Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake today pledged to protect the dignity of the people who vote to bring in National People's Power (NPP) government.
Speaking at the final rally in Kalutara, he requested people to be part of the NPP's victory and assured that they would act responsibly to keep up people's hopes and the trust placed on the NPP.
"People voted with good aspirations and hopes to bring in government so far. Millions of people voted to form Ranil-Maithri government in 2015 and then 6.9 million people voted to bring in Gotabaya Government. However, the rulers humiliated the people who voted them in a short period of time. We assure you that we will protect the dignity of the people who vote us. We request everyone to be part of our victory. We will act responsibly to keep up the hopes and trust placed on us," he said.
Dissanayake said the country suffered economic drawbacks due to old, failed economic policies and failure to keep up with the modern world and new trends in the world adding that it is time to transfer power to NPP now.
"Ranil Wickremesinghe has been in Parliament for 47 years in various positions as opposition leader, Prime Minister and the President. Mahinda Rajapaksa has been in parliament for 54 years in various capacities. They need to back away and transfer power to us,' he said.
He said a NPP government will ensure continuous supply of essential goods at reasonable price and in high quality and added that the country's economy suffered economic crisis due to the failed economic policies adopted after 1978 where all local productions were destroyed.
"Our rulers destroyed our productions and started importing everything. Value of rupee in relation to the US Dollar depreciated due to our failed economic policies. We will introduce a new economic policy to increase inflow and restrict outflow of Dollars. We need to develop this country," he said.

You have not even run a local government. Portfolio you had several years ago was unsuccessful too. You don't have an apex team of high calibre individuals with proven track record. You can't deliver on the promised transformation. You are not suitable to become the next head of state of this country. You must be defeated.

Look who's talking. First of all, this man must teach his supporters to respect other party leaders and their supporters. The entire country knows that JVP NPP are the biggest mud slingers with a lot of anger and hatred towards their opponents. We don't want thugs to rule this country.

What is exceptional of NPP / JVP as you are quite unaware. AKD got many houses without working anywhere and got an MP's from Madiwela, while having a house in Kadawtha, too. A few days ago, Mount Lavainia courts issued an order to arrest Wasantha Samarasinha and Mahinda Jayasingha as they didn't appear in the courts over their action of making money. Lalkantah, too got a case against him for running over a person when driving while being drunk.

ABOUT TIME YOU GAVE YOUR OWN CITIZENS ADVICE, THE MAJORITY WILL TAKE YOUR ADVICE WITH A PINCH OF SALT. MAJORITY OF POLITICIANS HAVE DRAINED THE COUNTRY AND FEATHERED THEIR OWN NEST, SO THE PEOPLE HAVE DECIDED TO VOTE ANURA/NPP IN TO TAKE THE COUNTRY AND US ALL TOO. You are right it is not a communist country yet, thanks to the right thinking people who prevented it from becoming one and thwarted the previous non democratic violent attempts by the JVP/NPP. Lending your votes to NPP will only help them achieve their communist agenda. It is not too late to think again and make the right choice at the ballot box. Just remember not to gamble the country's future away by letting in a one trick pony who knows nothing about governance nor the fundamentals of economics.

Dilakshan Seneviratne Friday, 20 September 2024 02:28 AM
I have not seen anything in the NPP manifesto/ policies that looks like communist. Do you really understand what communist countries are like? What are the so called communist countries in the world today? Both China and Russia have capitalist markets and so does countries like Vietnam, Cambodia and previous east European countries. So a communist country per say, that is doing well, is not existent. Don’t make wild allegations without facts. I don’t think NPP is foolish enough to follow communism, although they may have started that way in the 70’s but that was an old era.

AKD's maturity showed when he was asked about the Finance minister and foreign minister of his intended government as he could not give a sound answer but had to drink many glasses of water. What positive results AKD brought as the Agriculture minister or as the Chief of committee appointed by My3 to file cases against culprits whom the NPP accuse? Nothing at all. Heading for greater misery unlike any other time as Gota Part II.

We have been voting for decades expecting a good rulers to develop this country. With JR coming to power in 1977 we expected a new era but terribly disappointed Then Premadasa era began with terror people expected change thinking he was a poor mans leader but got disappointed when the time goes on, Chandrika came with a new doctrine open economy with a human face and her rule too passed away with disappointment. Then came Rajapakha era which made people more disappointed as they started to behave as they are the owners of the country. Same story continues with rule of my 3 and gotha. Ranil is a another disappointment who came to power due to the loopholes in our constitution which was solely written to safe guard politicians rather than people of this country. After 76 years we have now got a chance to elect a real leader who loves the country and the people. Whose carrier in politics doesn’t show any wrong doing and corruption. He is Intelligent and honest.

Living in a dream world. Cut imports, cut taxes, jobs are not a priority but development of the country is. All these policies come at a heavy price. Cutting imports means shortages of goods. Cut taxes means more they will borrow more or introduce other taxes to off set the ones they cut. Not prioritizing jobs means many will be jobless with no income. People's lifestyles will change drastically for the worst. But this is what half the country wants. So those who vote for JVP are in for a rude awakening. Added to that, you'll better hope and pray it will not be a repeat of JVPs1980s atrocities.

"NPP government will ensure continuous supply of essential goods at reasonable price and in high quality" - Can you please elucidate how you will achieve these twin objectives? Why couldn't you and your cohort do so in 2022 when GR invited you to accept the presidency? Why did you run away? Just words, words and words! So you will give people a dignified life. How? By killing people who oppose your views and forcing the victims' relatives to take the bodies below knee level? Forcing people to embrace Marxism and worship Karl Marx? Take from "who have" and give to "who don't have" and destroy both groups in the long run? Try to produce everything locally (import substitution) not knowing the rudimentary concepts of resource scarcity and opportunity cost and plummet the GDP to make all people starve (AKD can you please study the basic Production Possibilities Frontier concept)? Aney, Sri Lanka. Do you all get hoodwinked by what these people say who could not run a small radio station?

How can one speak of maintaining the dignity of the public when your party has been the main suspect of making untold hardships for the Public. Always the JVP/NPP have been in the forefront of the closures of the hospitals, universities. Railways etc. and many service sectors, wasn't the general public who had to bear the brunt of it. Is this the dignity you are talking of to bring chaos to the normal lives of the public. Many patients from distant places who had come to hospitals had to return back home whilist no means of transport and had to sleep on verandahs of hospitals as there were no hospital staff to attend to them. Look at the Universities the students were loitering in different places because of strikes and students had to wait long years to complete their degrees and because of age they were not employable. Is this the dignity you are talking of !!!! When you are soaked in Shit you try to absolve of the atrocities done to the public. Dreaming of Utopia!!

A party has no control over all who support them, so don’t talk nonsense. Those who write crude comments reflect the society they live in. People, see how narrow-minded these people are! Worse than frogs in a well. Let us assume that somehow, they found out the people who voted for the NPP. Then, what about the rest? It is a covert and subtle threat that those who did not vote for the NPP will be eliminated? Similar to the threat he made in North very recently. This is reminiscent of the 70s and the 88-89 period. How they killed innocent people who were against them? My family, too, was affected. I saved my life by managing to move to another country. This is a direct signal that JVP's para judicial and military structures will be reinvigourated so that the executions will be carried out at will. Are we heading for another North Korea? Oh my god! @Dilakshan Seneviratne - Don't be a simpleton. When commentors remind innocent voters of Sri Lanka of JVPs atrocities, you tell to forget them. That itself is sufficient to conclude that JVP, indeed, committed horrendous crimes in the past. Committing crimes against humanity is in JVP's DNA. There is every possibility that JVP/NPP will resort to same in the future. Though some JVP/NPP comrades who committed crimes may now be in hell paying for their sins, the present comrades, too, follow the draconian Marxist ideology - envy, jealousy, destroying who have wealth, murder, religion is a bane, etc. Basically, Marxists love to see bloodshed!

He is extremely intelligent, smart, talks absolute sense and his leadership abilities are proven, firstly as an Agriculture minister and recently bringing 3% votes to now definitely over50%. Personally, I am waiting to see how and where he is going to take SL. It’s going to be amazing to join the ride with Sri Lanka’s fast progress.
