Will protect dignity of people who vote for NPP: AKD

Colombo, September 18 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that people, who voted to form governments so far, were humiliated by the rulers, National People's Power (NPP) presidential candidate Anura Kumara Dissanayake today pledged to protect the dignity of the people who vote to bring in National People's Power (NPP) government.

Speaking at the final rally in Kalutara, he requested people to be part of the NPP's victory and assured that they would act responsibly to keep up people's hopes and the trust placed on the NPP.

"People voted with good aspirations and hopes to bring in government so far. Millions of people voted to form Ranil-Maithri government in 2015 and then 6.9 million people voted to bring in Gotabaya Government. However, the rulers humiliated the people who voted them in a short period of time. We assure you that we will protect the dignity of the people who vote us. We request everyone to be part of our victory. We will act responsibly to keep up the hopes and trust placed on us," he said.

Dissanayake said the country suffered economic drawbacks due to old, failed economic policies and failure to keep up with the modern world and new trends in the world adding that it is time to transfer power to NPP now.

"Ranil Wickremesinghe has been in Parliament for 47 years in various positions as opposition leader, Prime Minister and the President. Mahinda Rajapaksa has been in parliament for 54 years in various capacities. They need to back away and transfer power to us,' he said.

He said a NPP government will ensure continuous supply of essential goods at reasonable price and in high quality and added that the country's economy suffered economic crisis due to the failed economic policies adopted after 1978 where all local productions were destroyed.

"Our rulers destroyed our productions and started importing everything. Value of rupee in relation to the US Dollar depreciated due to our failed economic policies. We will introduce a new economic policy to increase inflow and restrict outflow of Dollars. We need to develop this country," he said.
