Colombo, June 17 (Daily Mirror)- Former Deputy Minister Ranjan Ramanayake who hit the news after appearing at a meeting organized by Minister Harin Fernando, said today that he only went and performed at the meeting as a singer.

“I was invited to perform at the meeting and therefore I accepted it. I am a professional singer and therefore I will sing for all political parties if they invite me to perform,” Ramanayake told the Daily Mirror.

“I am only engaged in singing and acting as I don’t have civic rights now. No one including the Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) talks of restoring my civic rights now despite pledges given earlier,” he added.

All these guys are the same. Just opportunistic scumbags. None can be trusted. They all have at least two personalities - one for the public (the better personality), a very different one (one they do anything to conceal) behind closed doors. When you ask them "why", they have a well-constructed answer to justify all their acts. Stay away from all these hypocrites.

This man had put lot of people in trouble due to his ignorant behavior. His recording of conversations with the government officials were used by the previous administration to take revenge for discharging their official duties. Cases in point are Shani Abeysekara of police department and Dilrukshi Bandaranayaka the former commissioner of Bribery department. Some of his conversations are filthy. He should not come to politics and should remain as an actor.

Wasn't it a 4 year term that was shortened with a presidential pardon? How does the law interpret, even under these circumstances shouldn't his civic rights be restored on ce the 4 year period is over?
