Worker’s death: Bogala mine closed temporarily

The Bogala graphite mine had been closed temporarily since the fatal accident yesterday, the Police said.

The graphite mine in Bogala, Kegalle came to standstill yesterday after a miner was killed and two others injured when a rock fell into the mine last morning.

A 42-year-old resident of Bogala had died in the accident. The other two were hospitalised last morning.

The Pindeniya Police are investigating.

Sri Lanka is a country with no rule is the rule. Safety is a taboo in Sri Lanka and 99% Sri Lankans are not aware with OSHAS. Land like no other

Sri Lanka has the worlds best graphite that is practically stolen at below world market rates. Look at the Bogala annual report. It's owned by a German company that buys the raw graphite and exports it below arms length world market prices (which is illegal), thus avoid paying taxes to the Sri Lanka government. Thus the mine is always in loss (due to the low prices), no benifits to workers, community, Sri Lanka etc.Do something Government officials.

Sad to hear so much lies when one just passed away doing his duty. Bogala mine is the only operation in Sri Lanka which is OHSAS certified - safety is key at the mine.Thousands of hours of safety training are given per year. I bet the person giving these news has never been to the mine. Graphite is sold above 1.000 USD per ton where the same purity out of China is sold at half price.People should inform themselves before posting!
