Sri Lankan sprinter Yupun Abeykoon will compete in his first Diamond League event for 2023, at the Florence leg of the multi-meet series on June 2.

Abeykoon, who in 2021 became the first Sri Lankan sprinter to compete in the Diamond League before taking part in two meets in 2022, will run alongside reigning Olympic champions Lamont Marcell Jacobs and current World Champion Fred Kerley. 

Also taking part in the Florence meet are Kenyan Ferdinand Omanyala and South African Akani Simbine, who took Gold and Silver respectively in last year's Commonwealth Games, along with American Trayvon Bromell, Jamaican Yohan Blake and Italian Samuele Ceccarelli. 

Abeykoon last year became the first Sri Lankan to clock under 10 seconds in the Men's 100m.
