The Education Ministry said today action was being taken against ten national school principals and teachers for allegedly violating the circulars which ban the collection of funds for school admissions.
It said a large number of complaints had been received about instances of such funds being collected.
The investigations carried out so far had confirmed that ten schools including four Colombo schools had been found to have collected money in violation of the circular.
These schools have been identified as: D.S. Senanyake College and Isipathana Vidyalaya in Colombo, the Mahinda Rajapakse Vidyalaya in Homagama, Anula Vidyalaya in Nugegoda, Sangamitta Balika Vidyalaya and Southland Balika Vidyalaya in Galle, Nugawela Central College and Uddin National School in Kandy, Rahula Vidyalaya in Matara and Viharamaha Devi Balika Vidyalaya in Kiribathgoda.
The ministry said the Principals and the Teachers if found guilty of have violated Circular No: 05/2015 dated January 29 would be transferred to other schools or zonal education offices and disciplinary action would be taken against them.
It said several complaints had been received against provincial schools as well and noted that these complaints had been referred to the provincial directors.
The Ministry Circular restricts the improper collection of funds in schools.
Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has stressed the need to strict adhere to contents of the circular.
