AG to peruse ‘X-files’



The extracts of the investigation reports in connection with the popular X-files actress Gillian Anderson’s Sri Lankan property case has been forwarded to the Attorney General for his advice, the CID informed Court today.

In a case in the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court, the Sri Lankan caretaker Anura Weeraratne Bandara was charged with having misappropriated Rs.17.8 million from the Sri Lankan properties owned by Ms. Anderson.

Filing a further investigation report before Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya, the CID said it had already concluded the investigations into the incident and extracts of the investigation report have been forwarded to the AG for his advice. The CID told Court that the investigations revealed that the suspect had allegedly misappropriated one million rupees.

In a complaint to the CID, Job Davis a British national complained that suspect Anura Weeraratne Bandara had been entrusted to administer the American actress’ properties located at Nugadola Watta in Pasyala and had committed this offence. The complainant alleged that the suspect had obtained Rs.17.8 million from another company affiliated to the concerned properties for service requirements.

It further transpired in Court that Ms. Anderson had bought the seven acres of land in Nugadola Watta Pasyala with the objective of inaugurating a Non-Government Organisation in Sri Lanka. The land had been bought in the name of Hill House Private Ltd. The suspect Anura Weeraratne Bandara had been appointed as a manager of the property.

The CID maintained that the suspect had obtained Rs.6.8 million for the purpose of supplying electricity to the property and thereby misappropriated one million rupees. Further magisterial inquiry into the incident was postponed for September 30.(By Lakmal Sooriyagoda)
