The Maldives Centre for Community Health and Disease Control (CCHDC) has advised Maldivians to reduce travelling to neighbouring Sri Lanka after swine flu (AH1N1) killed 22 people and infected more than 300 over the past two months, Haveeru online reported.

The centre asks pregnant women, children, and elderly people to be cautious of travelling to the country. The centre advises people coming to the Maldives who show symptoms of flu to consult a doctor.

Maldivian love Srilanka very much, Its just that since this is the school holidays in Maldives we tend to travel to Srilanka for medical and holidays mostly being kids and old people so its just a cautionary advice. Also we in Maldives are very congested where about 20 people live in small houses so unless we take precautions it would spread like wild fire. For us also its good when srilankan tourism prospers cos we have always looked at u as our big brother. we feel sad when some people have negative comments against us.

This could be mainly to alarm foreign tourists visiting Sri Lanka and trying to divert them to Maldives. But we also should not underestimate the problem of spreading swine flu in this country and need to take prompt action and precautions.

The Airports, seaports should be educated to identify and manage such health hazards with the help of the Health ministry and control the widespread. Hotels & resorts should be trained to be alert.

Didn't we become top in health sector in South Asia region few weeks ago? We can top in many fields but the problem is that we don't maintain that spot. We don't have preventive methods (maintenance) we only have break down maintenance.
This will certainly be a setback where tourism is concern.

Maldives has always acted with foresightedness when it comes to health related issues and this is not the first time it has given warning not only to its citizens but also adopted professional methods to screen the visitors and the expatriat worker- population
