The transfer of students from one national school to another for Advanced Level studies has been cancelled by the Education Ministry in a circular, Minister Bandula Gunawardane said today.

Students, after passing the Ordinary Level (O/L) Examination, seek enrolment in another school for their Advanced Level (A/L) studies. However, hereafter, this opportunity will not be available for national school students. (Ranjan Kasturi)

So under your method all city students will go to university and the rural have to grow paddy. The scheme of Z scores or cut off marks for different districts has its weaknesses but if you remove it there will be more problems. The real solution is to develop the education infrastructure of every district so that when the cut off scores converge then they can scrap the system all together.

Selecting an educational institution whether it is government or private, if their is seats available, they should be allowed to change, it is their fundamental rights.

Be assured although most of the Colombo schools have laboratory facilities the students do not do the experiments mentioned in the syllabi. Most of the physics teachers send the students to the lab and tell them to do the experiments and get vanished from the lab. When parents question at the P.T.A. meetings they say that is how they do in the university also. The students who are interested will do something during that time and the others just play the fool.

true said. unfortunately, facilities aren't equal to all areas of the country. but, however who ever produces better results should deserve the opportunity rather than, thinking oh this district didn't have enough infrastructure, therefore, lets be a bit lenient on them. whoever performs, should be allowed to climb up the ladder. and as a government body, they have to provide infrastructure to rural areas so that in the years to come, they will get their equal opportunity. this generalizing as city students, and village students should stop. students are students. margins should be uniform all over the country.

There are many things to do before this kind of a circular i believe..in fact there should be a grace period at least..before this kind of thing implemented to the system...this is what happens when a Tution Sir becomes the Education Minister..

It is a part of fundamental right to seek the education that one wants. When schools do not have equal facilities, this policy would affect students in poorly equipped schools for A/L science in particular. Somebody can file a FR case and educate our education minister

This is a good decision. Sri Lanka should implement school ranking system than distric quata for university entrance. It give more equity. All students are go tution classes too. Futher, all national school start their classes from grade 8. This should be applicable to all national school Royal, Ananda, Nalanda, Visaka, Mahinda, Darmaraja, ect. All other school should be devided into 3 categries; Jounior, meddle and heigh school. This kind of system solve many problem related to school education in Sri Lanka. All most all student can get better school in their heigh school level. Politician has to take brave and courrages decisions. Majority parent agree on this.

I have been in the industry for the last 15 years and this is the result of this stupid Z score. If a student with average capabilities in Colombo sits for his A level in a rural school where the pass Z score is less he is essentially depriving a student of that area to gain entry to University. The same is true for a Colombo student who after much effort realises that his score is below the level of a student in a rural area which deprives him from securing a place in Uni. Scrap this Z score nonsense and make it simple accross all areas. It is the duty of a government to provide the facilities to all areas not have different scores citing lack of facilities.
