Albino Turtle carcass to be brought to zoo

The Balapitiya Magistrate today directed the Kosgoda police to hand over the carcass of an albino turtle that had been preserved at the turtle hatchery in Kosgoda to the Dehiwala zoo, and have it destroyed after the investigations.

The magistrate also ordered the police to submit a report to Court on the cause of the death of the animal.

The carcass had been preserved using formalin had been kept for exhibition inside a glass tank.

Meanwhile, Wildlife officials are scheduled to bring the albino turtles being bred by Chandrasiri Abrew in his hatchery at Kosgoda and at his daughters house to the Dehiwala Zoo today, as directed by the Court yesterday.(Hemantha de Silva)

What a fuss. All this is while humans are either missing or killed and the body dumped on the roadside. The police chief talks of the good work done by his men and women and rewards them.

The person should be punished for making a false complaint, if he did. But I am at a loss to understand all this because the zoo or any other state institution was never interested in keeping a hatchery for albino turtles. This person has been a pioneer in that industry. But punishment should be meted out for any crime committed by him. Depriving him of turtles may be a form of punishment, perhaps.

These are expected in this country which is still belong to the 3rd world where the society has not yet developed in contrast to the development in the infrastructure. The culture that the island had 3 decades ago lost its decency and now transformed to 3 wheeled and kottu roti culture. Thats why majority do not know how to eat, how to use a toilet, how to speak or write, how to use a road, how to respect the other and so on when compared to the other nationals in the world.
