If gambling is to be legalised in certain areas of Sri Lanka then how is it that there are gambling places and widely advertised CASINOS in Colombo and in some other areas in Sri Lanka. It should be neither legal or illegal. Even though I am not a gambler, if the majority wants, why not but those who preach "Dharmarajya" and "mathata thitha" cannot agree to this. The consequences that could follow would be disastrous with prostitution, drugs, liquor and various crimes.

Agree with you, terra and all others; gambling is bad but being a Budhist country, we must stop animal sacrifices, killing of cattle for meat and ban liquor sales. But we can allow booze in the casinos as well as beef for "bytes" and why not, a little bit of the "room service".

Sampath, that's because the poor sri lankans including children are already gambling away buying lottery tickets.
casinos, betting centres and lottery tickets have been part and parcel of sri lankan culture for decades now. the gaming act is for the purpose of regulating these establishments and bringing in some order. gambling has been legal in sri lanka for a long time!
