Another boatload of 61 would-be asylum seekers illegally heading to Australia was taken into the Navy custody last night in the eastern seas, sources said

Two days ago, a group of 109 people with their fishing trawler were nabbed by the Navy in the eastern seas.

On the same day another group of 22 people were also arrested for preparing to leave the country illegally at Chilaw in the west coast.

Sri Lankan authorities last week announced that a three tier programme to curb illegal immigration had been implemented. (AA)

Australian Government must verify from SL Gov about the action taken on the boat people who were brought back to SL by Navy. If there has been no harassment by SL Gov their cliams to persecution or refugee status if questionable. It will be same with those who landed in Australian camps.

The GOSL maintains that there is NO reason for people to leave SL as refugees. The war is over and normality is the order of the day. Therefore the Australian Govt should declare that ALL Sri Lankans entering Australia other than through the valid ports of entry are ILLICIT MIGRANTS. They should be charged and deported.

This IS the reality of Sri Lankans who have sought domicile in other countries in the past 15-20 years, I dare say many of them are non-Tamils. Is there then a much larger issue which is not being addressed?

Sri Lankan Ambassador to Australia has told that all these asylum seekers reaching Australian sea should be sent back. Then, there won't be more boats

These are not 100% poor people. Most of them are travelling with the help of NGOs. Then they will be list as disappear under government control. We'll get the figures very soon from NGO !!!

This shows the desperation n frustration of the Tamil Youths ( Specially) how many of them are willing to pawn their life to find a land away from Sri Lanka, i believe government should look beyond their shoulders to prevent them from taking these risks, mere apprehending will not solve the problem this is only a tip of an ice burg Govt should ensure that youth ( irrespective of their race & ethnicity) is looked after and assured a security safety and more importantly a dignity. else govt has to face the second stage of this problem that is international protests against Sri Lanka by these fleeing people from abroad which is bound to attract international attention.
