Nobel Peace Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi was released today by Myanmar authorities. The authorities removed barricades in front of her home while a release order was read to Suu Kyi, whose detention was due to expire on Saturday.
At least 1,000 people had gathered near her lakeside house, many cheering loudly and chanting "Release Aung San Suu Kyi" and "Long live Aung San Suu Kyi," as officials pulled down barbed wire and removed the concrete barricades.
The Nobel Peace Prize winner has spent 15 of the past 21 years in detention. The latest spell dates from last August, when a court found she had broken a law protecting the state against "subversive elements" by allowing an American intruder to stay at her home for two nights. (Agencies)

Hey guys, please do not mix up Aung suu Ky and S.F.Their punishments were for different reasons. She was like Ranil in Sri Lanka.Do we agree for the country to be rulled by the forignes or by a true Srilankan.I think it is better to dig in to the history of certain countries before commenting ,regarding certain issues.I am happy that she is realesed , if it is true. But my friends, do not forget ,that if not for our great President ,Mahinda Rajapaksa all of us would be doing crash courses tn tamail language to excist in our own land. There is a very vice saying ,the known devil is better than the unknown angel.Do not write stupide things just because you have got the freedam to do so.One day when you are in Mrs.Aung SanSuu Kyi's shoes, you people will understand.
Dilip.

A political prisoner for so long. A strong woman who navigated the rough waves for this many years. THAT is will power. Now that she is free I hope she leads a life involving family, kith n kin who has missed being with her. She has sacrificed enough and hope someone else takes on the baton

Members of the Burmese Junta seem to have some heart, for placing their political prisoner under house arrest, much better than dumping the War hero in jail.

I and many others would like to know our President's view of Ms Suu Kyi's house imprisonment for 18 years that started one month after she won the general election by a landslide- 80% of seats . (I mean other than saying," we don't want to interfere with ...affairs .etc., as such utterance requires no interlect)

Siri Sunday, 14 November 2010 06:07 AM

Agree with you. But this lady Aung san Suu kyi is by any means not a nation builder. It is another power hungry woman who does not give a damn about average Buddhist Burmese. It is not Military Junta that suffocates the economy, it is this lady who campaign vigorously among her sponsors in the west to keep the economic embargoe intact agaist the Burmese People.

Another person that needs to take a rest and go back to England where her children lives in relative comfort. It is an irony this lady somewhat comparable to CBK of Sri Lanka, has done more harm to Burma and her people by alligning with her sponsors in the west. All what she aspire is to be the ruler of Burma.
