Australia defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 201 runs to win the second test before tea on day three at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday, and seal their three-match series 2-0.
Needing 305 runs to make Australia bat again, Sri Lanka surrendered after adding only 103 in their second innings, with a top order collapse and a raft of injuries cutting the match short. After bowling Australia out for 460 in the first hour, Sri Lanka staggered to lunch at 43-4 and lost Kumar Sangakkara to injury after the interval when he retired hurt after being struck on the glove by a
Mitchell Johnson delivery. With seamer Chanaka Welegedara and wicketkeeper Prasanna Jayawardene absent injured, Australia needed to capture only three wickets after lunch, and clinched them all within 12 overs of play re-starting. The teams play the final dead rubber test in Sydney on January 3.

Time to give up TEST status & concentrate on T 20 only.

Its right time that we introduce fast wickets at the domestic level. Our batsmen’s were comprehensively undone by the pace of the wicket. Being a Sri Lankan living in Australia it’s really embarrassing and disheartening when we hear Aussies say that we are only performing well in subcontinent slow wickets.

You go to Zimbabwe,Bangladesh and the wrap the series up and coming like heroes.Do it in SA or Australia, that's test cricket is all about.Mahela averaging 50 because of Zim and Ban i must say, check out his average against SA or Ausi it must be less than 20.

Our frontline couldn't absorb pressure. We will win 3rd test. Mahela should be fit and Angelo should wake up as he is ready for next 5 years.

Reasons for the Pathetic state of Cricket
1. Unsuitable officials without people skills managing the Cricket Board
2.Political interference in sport.
3.No experience in playing test cricket as the board has cancelled test tours and concentrating on T20 and 50 Overs.
Remedial action proposed
1.Appoint a Parlimentary seiect Committe presided by Wimal
2.CID to check on Foreign conspiracies
3.Hand over management to BCCI since they dictate to us
even now.
4.Build a Cricket ground in Bintenne Since Weddas are into cricket .

SL Test status is as good as lost already when the SA test (the best) was cancelled - we'll be lucky to get it back, but not sure if Zim, B'desh will want to either as we are non-competitors now? Don't keep blaming SLC, what about the players themselves who have become just rich zombies!

Pathetic, disgraceful, embarrassinga and horrible, there is no other way to describe sri lankas performance in the 2nd test. Our bowling is no better than a back yard attack and our batsmen could't handle the pace and bounce. We tend to play like lions at home and pussies away.Whats going to happen when the three big names retire???.GOD BLESS sri lankan cricket

Hey...Don't blame SLC for pathetic display of the cricketers. Yes SLC is bunch of idiots but the defeat of such a margin is the failure of SL cricketers. This is the worst Aussie bowling attack for last 2 decades but our guys succumbed like under 13 team.
Mahela scored 10000 test runs at SSC, Galle and flat slow tracks but failed miserably on fast. bouncy..moving wickets. But Sanga showed he is much better..much more completed batsman than Mahela.

Why are we talking about IPL and such here? Sri Lanka Cricket runs like a headless chicken. Outside the MR family, that is the only place where people have some spotlight. Natural talent is the best asset the Sri Lankans got. IPL would not kill them! Unlike the Australian cricket team, where the fast bowlers drop like flies, Sri Lankans are not over-worked. Fix SLC, bring professionalism, the rest will follow.

Make Namal the cricket captain. he along with his friends from the Navy and kelaniya can fix the Aussies in no time..
This is what happens when we play political cricket.. Even our best players are dsiheartened with the antics of theSLC. and we see this humiliating result.

We Sri Lankans look desperately for something to be happy about. Time and time again the politicians spoil it all for us. They find ways which we would never have thought possible, to make us laughing stocks. If this seems like a response to some other story, I'm sorry; We're right to say our representatives ruin everything from Supreme Court to Cricket. to conduct of Exams to migration of the talented young. Gullible voters are responsible. A handful of us have seen this coming, but to what avail?

Well, when the administrators of Sri Lanka Cricket learn to manage the team without intentionally demotivating them,as what they did to Mahaela recently, the team will start playing in its normal game again.

The most pathetic display by any lankan team in 30 years given that aussies are in the process of building a side. It also shows without sanga, mahela and dilshan performing, we cant even compete at world stage leave alone winning a test match

Is that an ingenious way of saying Dilshan, Sanga and J'dene are necessary for the team?
If our top order could score 35 runs each we would have had a chance. The team shows a complete lack of meritocracy. Start by including only those who perform.

Arjuna Rantunga told when the IPL started that this is going to be the down fall of Sri lankan cricket I am sure a lot of us including me did not take the comment seriously but after 5 year of IPL see what has happened we can’t beat India on a regular basis and our test record is decreasing very fast. Must say it is not only the IPL but that is one of the major factors. We should hope and pray our cricket will get better in the future.

Guys yes we lost the game in a bad way. You cannot win all the time. This is a good lesson for our Board giving in for all the requests made by Indian Cricket Board by cancelling Test Tours for their bloody T20 tours. This is the time we must put GOLD in Arjuna Rantunga's mouth.
On top of all these SLC purposely created a drama with confidential email of Mahela. I am pretty sure team may have lost the game purposely (May be I am wrong). We can see the ODI's. We are not so bad and stupid to play such rash shot on the 1st day. Hobart game played well even though we lost on a very difficult wicket

Test cricket requires long and rigorous preparations, long and hard concentration and commitment over 5 days. Sri Lankan team lacked at least the latter against team building Aussies. Back to the drawing board to find a team eventually where each member delivers and none is a passenger.

No wonder of this result , We should have chased down the 1st Test at a RR of 3 odd but we gave up for many reasons. At least we would have try out and see.. With due all respect to Mahela , I feel he was loosing his fighting instinct .. We didn't chase the NZ test too where we had enough chances to make it for 2-0 ...
We do not mind losing matches, but with a Dignity !
