Australia wins the CB series

Australia beat Sri Lanka by 16 runs to win the Commonwealth Bank finals series 2-1, a short while ago.

After being put into bat, Australia were bowled out for 231 in 49.3 overs, with Rangana Herath and Farveez Maharoof taking three wickets each. Aussie openers Matthew Wade and David Warner both fell short of half-centuries and were the leading scorers for the hosts.

In reply Sri Lanka never got into gear losing wickets regularly and were 53 for 4, at one point. Demoted opener Upul Tharanga put in a valiant effort though, with a pedestrian 71 off 122, but once he was caught behind in the 46th over, Sri Lanka were done and dusted.

Clint McKay, whose late cameo (28 off 32) helped the Australians pass 200, was the hosts’ best bowler picking up career-best 5 for 28.
