Not long before the recently appointed hangman quit soon after witnessing the gallows, the Prisons Department said today that it had received e-mails from two Australians seeking to fill the hangman’s position.
“We have received emails from two Australians requesting for the hangman position. They have mentioned that they were qualified for the post. However, we won’t recruit foreign nationals to the position,” Prisons Commissioner General Chandrarathna Pallegama said.
He said the applications were not called by the Department and the two Australians must have applied via E-mail after seeing reports on the internet.
He said they would wait for a month before calling for fresh applications by a Gazette notification.
The recently appointed hangman quit his job soon after seeing the gallows early March. This was the third person who had left the job after being appointed.
