The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) Vice President, senior lawyer Anoma Goonethilake said she decided to resign from her position following the tense situation that arose during the special general meeting held this morning.
Explaining reasons behind the decision to resign, Ms. Goonethilake said, “Although the BASL President Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe claims the three resolutions passed today were unanimously agreed upon, only a certain fraction consented to them. Those who opposed to the resolutions were not given a chance to express their views at all. I feel the BASL President acted in a dictatorial manner during the meeting today and the resolutions passed are extremely biased,” she said.

Having failed to push for government agenda, she is now questioning the validity of the resolutions passed by the BASL. Surely, she should know that this is what one calls Democracy where the majority vote carries a resolution. If in doubt, she can ask her "boss" as to how he handles such situations where he gets his "majority" MPs to pass any Bill in the Parliament.

BASL resolution is a very wise move. No one should support unethical and unjust action by the executive. The executive is acting against the interest of the people by interfering with judiciary of the people. The lady who resigned belongs to a fraction of people who support MR's. So good she quit.

What's going on Srilanka Is she the only one right for the CJ post she and her husband had drained tax payers money. Still government is in favor of this woman. Is that her son aiming this mama's post that's the trend of Srilanka from father to son how many sons came to power like this MPS sons and Ministers sons without noticing they slipping into government and having luxury life style and going abroad for medication studies and pleasure and coming with all the luxury goods there's no custom duty for them

Wijedasa Rajapaksha wants to politicize the impeachment which is having a negative impact on CJ. It is Vital for CJ NOT to be seen as a politically biased for the moderates to back her.
There are many moderates who supports CJ against the impeachment irrespective of political affiliations.Wijedasa Rajapaksha chasing these people away from CJ
Wijedasa Rajapaksha should resign from his post.

But executive is taking action as stipulated in the constitution of 1978. No matter what, opposing views should have a place, be it BASL or any other org. BASL is following same path as RW's UNP.
