The police have begun investigations to probe the death of a Ministerial Security Division (MSD) constable whose body was found this morning in a bare land along the Cotta road in Rajagiriya.
He was attached to the Administrative branch of the Division. He was 45 years old and was a resident of Meegoda. When inquired about the death police media spokesman Prishantha Jayakody said that the MSD constable was returning home after a shooting training session in Kalutara.
He claimed that he had been sitting on a wall on Cotta Road in Borella near the rail track waiting for a bus to get home after completing a shooting training session in Kalutara.
The policeman had fallen off the wall and died of suffocation after he got entangled in a barbwire at the foot of the wall, he said.
SP Jayakody said that when the police arrived into the scene the body was hanging in the barb wire at the foot of the wall.
He said that one of his bags had fallen into the bare land. He had jumped to recover the bag. But his other bag which he was carrying on his shoulder got entangled with the barb wire.
He said that the victim was waiting for the 190 Meegoda bus at the time of the incident believed to have occurred at around 11.30pm last night. He was attached to the Administrative branch of the Division. He was 45 years old and was a resident of Meegoda.
However residents of the area said that the body was lying next to a lamp post near the wall. They said that the bus stand was long away from the place where the body was recovered. (Supun Dias)
