I don't wish death for no one, however sadly in this country Private Bus drivers & conductors have taken law into their hands. This is all about racing. They took 41 lives, probably for few hundred buck more. This judgment should definitely open the eyes of others and the authorities should never waiver its decision.

should give good publicity as a restrain to marauding bus crews who will take any risk to earn a rupee

buses and three-wheelers should be strictly monitored....they are the main cause for traffic and accidents.

I am no friend of private bus drivers or conductors but this sentence to death is over the top. In crimes of this nature there should be a motive, intention and gain. There is none of these and also the conductor had nothing to do with the recklessness of the driver.

The owner of the Bus also should have been punished to ensure that this type of irresponsible driving is eliminated from our roads.

Sapumal Bandara Friday, 05 April 2013 12:01 PM
Motor Traffic Act should be amended enabling Police to charge such offenders and their owners under manslaughter charges, like in other countries.

At last some justice has been done, but awaits for final judgement of AG.

Rasa Friday, 05 April 2013 12:58 PM
We talk about justice. Did the driver and conductor got together and killed the passengers. It was just an accident which could have been easily prevented by careful driving. It was whatever said, is an accident

Very good judgement. They must be hanged soon. This should be an example for all bus and 3 wheeler drivers.

it is the high time to make awareness to drivers as well as conductors of the buses on discipline and the traffic law.

Aruan Friday, 05 April 2013 02:19 PM
Obviously you dont know what happened that day....conductor got off the bus and guided the driver to squeeze through the closed rail gate....before the train hit the bus. He is equally responsible

Judge, why the conductor ? was he driving from the foot board ?

Goni Billa Saturday, 06 April 2013 06:06 AM
This was no accident, I remember reading this at the time that, the driver and conductor tried to 'squeeze' their bus through the closed gates as the train was approaching. So they are both culpable as they both participated in breaking the law and taking an unnecessary risk by endangering the passengers in their care & causing their deaths. The judgement is correct.

People comment without studying the case in question. This was no ordinary accident. This was due to the callousness of the driver and conductor who caused the death of their passengers by their illegal action by trying to' squeeze' thru the closed rail gate.

How come the Bus Conductor get the death penalty ?. He didn't drive the bus.

DAW Friday, 05 April 2013 09:08 AM
How come this similar order was not given to the Dharmasiri who was the prime suspect and probably masterminded the Kahawatte killings.

For an obvious criminal case like this, they take 8 long years to give the verdict!!!

The rest of the private bus drivers should be charged for attempted murder as they try to kill the public the moment they start the bus

Why the conductor?

Not at all fair. Surely why would they kill them? Certainly not intensionaly. It is a case of negligent driving. Rigorous imprisonment of say 7 yrs should be the punishment.
