Lanka Private Bus Owners’ Association said that the bus fares should be increased due to the recent increase in fuel prices and items surrounding it.
President of the Association, Gemunu Wijeratne said that a decision in this regard will be made at the Board meeting of the Association scheduled on the 6th of April.
Further Mr. Wijeratne noted that the bus fares have not been increased for one and a half years and a fare hike should be done to evade more losses. Although diesels prices have been increased only by Rs. 3 and Rs. 7 by the two providers other petroleum products such as kerosene, lubricants and rebuilt cost have gone up 75%, he said
The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation increased auto diesel prices by Rs. 3 while and the IOC increased its diesel prices by Rs.7 on Friday (April 1st). (Daily Mirror online)
