The Canadian refugee board accepted 85.2% of Sri Lankans claiming refugee status in Canada during the first six months of 2010 — a rate that is on the high end among countries, CBC news said.

An analysis by CBC News of numbers released by the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada showed 345 Sri Lankan claims were accepted in six months, while 50 were rejected. Another 705 claims from that period are waiting to be processed.

Once upon a time, Sri Lanka bloomed when Jaffna tamils held responsible posts. The Govt. admin posts were talk of the world while we had world class doctors, engineers and accountants. Today we shamelessly have to call upon all foreigners even to build an overhead bridge across Dehiwela or fight a dengue menace. The migration of this class has benefitted other nations.

spark jaffna tamils held good possitions until LTTE ruined it starting fm killing jaffna mayor alfred duraippa. whtr canada benifitted byall i hv my doubts with scarbourough being drug /crime infested & tamils being voted most depressed community in canada 2002. world class tamil doctors are still there in SL doing a good job.

While there is some truth in your comment, a flawed race, class bias is clearly visible. You say that "Sri Lanka bloomed when Jaffna tamils held responsible posts"! What about 'non-Jaffna Tamils" holding responsible posts? What about Muslims holding responsible posts? The reality is thousands of qualified professionals leave the country whenever they get a chance whether they are Tamils, Muslims or Sinhalese. The reason for calling upon foreigners for construction work is not due lack of "Jaffna Tamil professionals". This has much broader, complex reasons - one being the conditions of donor countries themselves!
