The Price of cigarettes has been increased by Rs 2 with effect from today, official sources said.

Under the Provisions of Excise(Special Provisions) Act, the Excise Duties of Cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes, of tobacco or of tobacco substitutes have been changed with effect from today, the Sri Lanka Customs said.

cigarette smoking is injurious to health. It was once believed that cigarettee smoking is style of the day, and especially girlfriends liked their boyfriends being chain smokers. But nowadays, they feel the pinch of it, the bad taste coming from the mouth. So, dear ladies and gentlemen, please shy away from cigarette. Please not that every cigarette is a nail on your coffine. God Save All from this evil. I appreciate that the government put more restrictions on smoking. Do not see the benefit of the government. A government of the people, by the people and for the people should see the benefit of the common man rather than the government's exchequer.

no govt would wanna completely ban stuff like alcohol and cigarettes... if they do so, they lose the huge income they gain by taxing these...but i wish they would do so

Good idea, make these 'people killers' more prohibitively expensive. Smoking should be banned altogether like any other disastrous drug. If anyone has visited a loved one suffering from emphysema due to smoking, breathing in their last breaths to live or been with someone with throat /lung cancer, one woud never smoke ever again. Smoking is a curse to humanity.
