President Mahinda Rajapaksa has signed the decree removing Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake from her post and the removal letter was hand delivered to her official residence this morning, Presidential Spokesman Mohan Samaranayake said.
Meanwhile, Lawyers of Dr. Bandaranayake acknowledged receipt of the removal letter sent by the President this morning. However, they declined to comment on the next course of action.( Hafeel Farisz)
The Presidential Spokesman has issued the following statement:
Chief Justice removed with immediate effect
"President Mahinda Rajapaksa signed this morning the order removing Chief Justice Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake from office with immediate effect in accordance with the resolution passed by Parliament on January 11, 20013.
This measure was taken in terms of Article 107 (2) of the Constitution.
The removal order was delivered this morning to the official residence of Ms Bandaranayake by a Senior Assistant Secretary of the Presidential Secretariat and an officer of the Presidential Security Division.
The President has said in his order that he was in agreement with the request for the removal of Chief Justice from office made in the said address of Parliament."

1 ) Allowing M Ps' to cross over with out loosing their parliamentary seat. ( Against the wishes of those people who have selected them ).
2 ) Allowing 18th Amendment to pass.

This reminds me the so called king of the kings Osemendiya of Egypt who acted like a powerful king in the desert and what happened to his statue erected for him. Also, it reminds me of Bob Dylan who penned poems to she arrogance of American president during Vietnam war. He asked " How many years can the mountain exist before it is washed to the sea" even the powerful mountain will be one day reduced to ash and where will the so called powers go? What has happened to so called powerful leaders in the recent past? Why is it only in Srilanka the coloued rain comes? We need to correct all of us. Let this country be peaceful please, please please

A country once respected and idolised by one and all is now the laughing stock and on a fast track to become a pariah state. We admire and embrace not leaders who have given it all for the country and none for thyself and then left office duly at the end of their terms; but those who repeatedly siphoned out their countries' wealth and prolonged or extended their terms by interfering with election mechanisms. Natural justice shall prevail for this country to face the fate that befell the latter.

Ozymandias - Rajapakse
I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said: "Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. Near them on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose frown
And wrinkled lip and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them and the heart that fed.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
`My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings:
Look on my works, ye mighty, and despair!'
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare,
The lone and level sands stretch far away".

The Parliament’s decision on the Chief Justice and the Presedents signing off the "Order for her removal dealt a severe blow to the insidious forces who used her as a cat’s paw to destabilise the government’s progressive march to uplift the rural masses" Quote..Chief Justice was behaving like a politician and her conduct was sufficient to disqualify her from the post of Chief Justice even if one does not take into account the charges against her. Now the antigovernment forces and traitors to the Motherkand will have to find another issue to keep them going as CJ' and SF have been destined to the dustbins of history. One must not forget that these same forces once said that SF is not even fit to be a Captain in the Salvation Army and also said the the CJ' should be reported to the Bribary Commissioner. Now can anyone guess what these dark forces will try next ? The country should forever be grateful to Mahinda for saving Sri Lanka .

Shirani resorted to non judiciary means to hang on with the stupid advice of Wijedasa and her Lawyers. They were not even born when JR did this constitution. JR has taken all necessary measures to avoid a clash with Judiciary. There is no absolute clash if JR or Premadasa were in power. because of MR, stupid lawyers had courage to come forward and challenge the constitution.
IShirani thought someone will help her to win this and mahinda will change his mind. He never bowed down to international pressure when entire world wanted to stop the humanitarian operation. You think he will change his mind to this kind of silly issues.
Opposition please rally around with constructive mto take the country forward from Where MR has opened up.
No point demos struggles. I am urging people holding top positions not to betray your position to JVP who have no power base in this country anymore. We no How SF and now Shirani swallowed the pill of JVP>

do u know what the problem is?
lack of information! us living in Colombo think or assume that everyone is as outraged and informed as us! this sadly isnt the case. People in SL (im not referring to the suburban folk) have more pressing issues ie: finding three square meals, finfing a decent job to support a flagging family.
So keeping these people in poverty and destitution and thus making them insensitive to issues like judicial independence, rule of law is sadly working well for the present regime.
