CEYPETCO calls for details from motorists

CEYPETCO, today, wrote to motorists whose vehicles had been damaged after running on the sub standard petrol issued by CEYPETCO in July. CEYPETCO requested the motorists to send in all particulars relating to the damage within 14 days if they wished to receive compensation, a CEYPETCO spokesman said.

The letters had been issued on the recommendations of the three member committee headed by M. M.C Ferdinando which was appointed to probe the fraud and the circumstances leading up to it, the spokesman said.

CEYPETCO will pay compensation only in response to written complaints. The affected motorists are required to send a copy of their national identity card, vehicle registration certificate, insurance certificate, receipts or bills issued by the CEYPETCO filling stations at which the substandard petrol had been purchased and bills issued by the garages where the vehicles had been repaired.

An affidavit should be produced if a bill or receipt from a filling station is not available. All pertinent information regarding the vehicle and the damage sustained by it should be included in the affidavit.

Meanwhile, Sandya Wijayabandara, secretary to the Petroleum Industries Ministry, said that CEYPETCO had decided to supply the total requirement of Low Sulfur Fuel for the Kerawalapitiya - Ugadanavi power plant on the recommendations of the Cabinet sub-committee headed by senior minister A.H.M.Fowzie.

CEYPETCO will supply the total requirements of all the other power plants -- including naphtha and diesel, said Mrs. Wijayabandara.
